As of August 10th, two and a half million people have purchased health insurance through the online marketplaces (ACA) after the Biden Administration extended the time frame amid Covid-19. Haven’t had a chance to sign up as yet? That’s okay — there’s still time! Individuals and small businesses have until this Sunday, August 15th to purchase a health insurance plan.
The special enrollment period was extended in part to help those who had lost their employer-related health insurance coverage as the pandemic rattled the U.S.
There are also only a few days left to see if you qualify for free or low-cost private health insurance. Also ending on August 15th, this special enrollment period is the only time to sign up for a plan that would come with major subsidies to reduce monthly premiums. Otherwise, unless there’s a qualifying life event (i.e. job loss, the birth of a child, etc) after the current window closes, it’s generally best to wait until open enrollment this fall to sign up.
Overall, about 3 out of 5 eligible uninsured Americans should be able to access zero-premium plans, according tot eh Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
New to the marketplace? That’s okay — we can help! We’re the number one agency in Coral Springs and Parkland for a reason!
