What to Check Before Choosing Health Insurance
Florida Healthcare Insurance · Updated October 12, 2026
A monthly premium tells you what it costs to keep a plan. It does not tell you everything about how that plan will work when you need care. Start with the details that matter to your household.
Check your doctors and hospitals
Write down the providers you want to keep using. Ask whether they participate in the exact plan and network you are considering. An insurer’s name alone is not enough to identify a network. Check specialist access and referral requirements, too.
Check prescriptions separately
Bring a current medication list to your coverage conversation, including dosage and how often you refill each prescription. Ask which drugs the plan covers, which pharmacy you can use and what your share of the cost would be.
Look beyond the monthly payment
Compare the premium with the deductible, copayments, coinsurance and the out-of-pocket limit for covered care. Ask which services are covered before the deductible and what the plan excludes. An estimate of yearly spending can help you compare options, but your actual costs depend on the care you use.
Bring your questions to an advisor
Make a short list of what matters most: a particular doctor, regular medication, planned care or a predictable budget. Our team can help you work through the available options and understand the tradeoffs before you decide.

Information is educational. Eligibility, coverage and enrollment options depend on current rules and the terms of the plan.
